| THE DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN PSYCHOLOGY UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA AT A GLANCE |
The need of Doctoral Program in Psychology in the eastern Indonesia is high. In East Java, now there are more than 20 psychology study programs or faculties. In other provinces in eastern Indonesia, there are also many psychology study programs or faculties, such as in Bali, East Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, even in North Sulawesi. Most of the lecturers in these institutions already hold a master’s degree. Naturally these lecturers need advanced education at doctoral level. Moreover, the government continues to encourage the improvement of lecturer education as stipulated in Law No. 14 Year 2005 on Teachers and Lecturers, and Minister of National Education Regulation No. 16 Year 2007 on National Standards of Educators.
The need of Doctoral Program in Psychology in eastern Indonesia is also demanded by psychologists working in applied psychology service bureaus and management institutions as well as professionals working in hospitals, educational institutions and companies. The number of people with master’s degrees who need further education at doctoral level is also not small. In order to meet these needs, the Doctoral Program in Psychology Universitas Airlangga was opened.
Education at the Doctoral Program in Psychology Universitas Airlangga has a distinction of what we call the “flowing and cultivating system”. In this system, our education focuses on two things:
- development of concepts and knowledge, as well as research capabilities,
- completion of the dissertation on time.
With this system, students are expected to have good concept and knowledge in the field of their chosen specialty, to have extraordinary skills in conducting research, and to complete the dissertation within three years.
